Screen-Free Summer: Fun Crafting Activities for Rainy Days
By The ArtsBot Team ·
As summer approaches, it brings long, lazy days, bursts of sunshine, and the kind of freedom kids dream about all year. But it also brings rainy afternoons, travel delays, and the age-old question: “What can we do now?”
As screens become the default answer to boredom, many parents are looking for something different — a way to keep little hands busy and young minds engaged without the constant hum of a tablet or TV. That’s where screen-free crafting steps in.
On rainy summer days, having a stash of simple, go-to craft supplies can transform a grey afternoon into a burst of colour and creativity. A few she
ets of paper, some markers, glue, and a little guidance can go a long way. The best part? You don’t need to come up with complicated Pinterest-worthy ideas. Children are natural creators. Give them a nudge in the right direction, and they’ll take it from there.
ArtsBot kits make it easy. Each one is a complete project in a bag — no need to hunt around for missing parts or scroll for inspiration. They’re designed for kids aged 3–9, so they’re simple enough to do independently, but engaging enough to hold their attention. And because everything is self-contained, clean-up is minimal. That’s a win for parents too.
Crafting together can also become a shared experience. It’s an opportunity to sit side by side, chat about the day, and connect — without the distraction of a screen or the pressure of a plan. Even ten quiet minutes making something side by side can feel special.
As the summer holidays approach, think of crafts not as filler, but as fuel: fuel for creativity, curiosity, and connection. A rainy day doesn’t have to mean reaching for the remote. With a little prep and the right tools, it can be the perfect chance to slow down and make something beautiful.
Whether you’re at home, in a hotel room, or on a long car journey, having a few ready-to-go craft activities on hand can be the secret to a screen-free summer that still feels magical.
